A History of Innovation

Working with producer Kim Coventry of the Coventry Group, Chicago, we were engaged to help Ball tell their story as a gift to their best customers, collaborators, and partners.

Ball has always been respected for innovation. So it made sense that key ideas of innovation and reputation/history would drive our design.

Selections from Ball’s expansive archive of photography and ephemera express its colorful past. We paired these objects with gorgeous portraits of plants and flowers shot by Howard Bjornson and our original illustrations. This combination of elements helped us to achieve a wide range of visual styles and period references to communicate the company’s consistent openness to new ideas through time.

A collection of potting diagrams refer to the Ball brand and inspired the lively pattern we created for the book’s endpapers.
