Recasting the Past: Collecting and Presenting Antiquities at The Art Institute of Chicago

Our book design and art direction for photography celebrate the Art Institute of Chicago’s new modern gallery constructed to display their world-class collection of antiquities.

Artifacts photographed on reflective surfaces are placed next to light, open typography reflecting the sharp and intentional contrast between the modern gallery and the ancient objects on display there.

The cover design picks up on a motif found on the artifacts, resembles a gallery map, and reflects or "recasts" the image to align with the approach to photography of the ancient objects inside.
